My Story

Born and raised in Krakow

I was born and raised in Krakow, a city whose history, culture and artistic traditions have shaped both my personal life and my professional career. As a private guide, visual artist and storyteller, I have spent nearly two decades introducing visitors to Poland through carefully designed private experiences that go beyond traditional sightseeing.

Jewish heritage has become the central focus of my work. I regularly guide members of the Jewish diaspora, families researching their ancestry, history enthusiasts and travellers who wish to gain a deeper understanding of Jewish life in Poland — before, during and after the Second World War.

Many of my guests come not simply to visit historical sites, but to reconnect with family history, understand personal stories and explore places that hold deep emotional significance. I consider it a privilege to accompany them on that journey.

Art & Academic Background

Where art meets history

My academic background naturally complements this work. I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, specialising in photography and printmaking, as well as at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. I also studied applied linguistics and continue learning Hebrew through Ulpan programmes in Israel — invaluable in archival research and when working with Hebrew-speaking visitors (my knowledge of Hebrew is non-conversational, however).

As a practising artist, I see cities not only through historical events but also through architecture, visual culture and everyday details. This perspective allows me to connect history with art, language and contemporary life, creating experiences that are both intellectually engaging and deeply human.

Guests interested in contemporary Polish art are also welcome to visit my printmaking studio and explore another side of Krakow's creative identity — see the Art & Studio experience. You can also explore my artwork and photography at renataguzera.pl ↗.

Who I've Guided

Listening, adapting, and creating a personal experience

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of guiding travellers on tours operated by Odysseys Unlimited, alumni associations from leading American universities, museum patrons, private families, VIP guests and independent travellers — mainly from the US & Canada.

Working with such diverse groups has taught me that exceptional guiding is not about delivering a memorised script — it is about listening, adapting and creating an experience that feels personal to every guest. Whether you are planning your first visit to Poland, tracing your family's roots, or looking for an in-depth exploration of Jewish heritage, my goal is to help you experience Krakow with knowledge, sensitivity and genuine local insight.
