Both private and group tours have real advantages in Krakow — the right choice depends less on budget alone than on what kind of day you're hoping for.

| Group Tour | Private Tour | |
|---|---|---|
| Pace | Fixed, set by the group | Set entirely by you |
| Route & focus | Standard itinerary | Tailored to your interests |
| Group size | Often 15–40+ people | Just your party |
| Depth of Q&A | Limited per person | Open conversation throughout |
| Family history / genealogy | Not usually possible | Can be woven into the day |
| Cost | Lower per person | Higher, but priced per group |
| Best for | Budget-conscious solo travellers, first orientation | Families, meaningful/emotional visits, specific interests |
Where Group Tours Make Sense
A group walking tour is a perfectly reasonable way to get an initial orientation to Kazimierz, especially on a tight budget or a short layover. You'll see the main landmarks and get a general historical overview, usually at a lower price per person than a private guide.
Where Private Tours Make a Real Difference
The difference shows up most clearly in three situations. First, family history: a private guide can adapt the day in real time around names, addresses or photographs you bring, something no fixed-departure group tour can do. Second, emotionally significant sites: the pace and depth of discussion at places like the former ghetto or a family cemetery benefit enormously from not being on a group's schedule. Third, specific interests — whether that's architecture, Jewish religious practice, or contemporary art — a private guide can go as deep (or move as quickly past general background) as you'd like.
A Middle Ground
Private tours are typically priced per group rather than per person, so for families or small groups of friends travelling together, the per-person cost gap with a group tour narrows considerably — often to the point where the flexibility is worth far more than the difference in price.
Our Approach
Every tour I guide is private, for exactly these reasons — see our full list of tours, or get in touch to talk through what would suit your trip best.
